After seeing the extended version, the story makes a lot more sense. Poor Peter Jackson…he must have battled anxiety attacks, since he had to cut so many shots of the movies to fit them in theaters when they were first released.
The first film, “The Fellowship of the Ring”, includes an additional thirty minutes of bonus footage and closes this film after three and a half hours. The second film, “The Two Towers”, runs for 43 minutes and concludes after 3 hours and 42 minutes. The film’s final “grand finale,” “The Return of the King,” stretches for fifty mind-blowing minutes and literally keeps you spellbound in your seats for a spine-tingling finale to Tolkien’s beloved trilogy. after 4 hours and 11 minutes! Adding it all up, you have eleven hours of masterfully crafted, Blu-ray entertainment delight to boot. This is without much imagination and without other close competition, the greatest trilogy of all time.
