Utility Cart – How To

You can build a utility car in just a weekend and it will last a long time. I suggest using 3/4″ plywood with aluminum trim to prevent splintering and make the panels last longer. Also, the subframe is made of angled aluminum. The spindle is a 3/4″ aluminum rod to prevent rust and allows the bearing wheels to rotate smoothly. The handle and bracket are made from 3/4″ electrical conduit bent by a local electrical shop free of charge.

It uses less than a sheet of plywood for this utility cart, along with 1/2″ aluminum channel for the edges and 3/4″ electrical conduit. All of this is available at your local Lowe’s or Home Depot. You can buy pneumatic bicycle wheels online.

When you’re ready to finish, you can use stain and replacement urethane or you can paint the plywood for preservation.

You can build this cart for much less than you can buy. And it’s stronger than anything on the market today! The current price of this type of utility cart is more than $250. Why spend that kind of money on a cheap car?
