Some Great Halloween Costume Ideas for 2011

Halloween is just around the corner, now it’s time for you to prepare your costume for the big day. The following are some great Halloween costume ideas to help you celebrate this year’s festivities in style. Whether you make your own or buy them from a costume store, remember that the whole point of this holiday is to have fun.

Celebrity costumes are always popular. The key to selecting a celebrity for your outfit is to choose someone who is easily identifiable. Here are some celebrity costume ideas:

  • arnold schwarzenegger
  • Snooki (From the show ‘Jersey Shore’)
  • michael jackson
  • Barack Obama
  • Osama bin Laden
  • sarah palin
  • Kim Kardashian

With the growing trend in the movie industry to remake superhero movies, why not take the lead and become a superhero for Halloween this year? Some popular superhero costumes this year are:

  • Spiderman
  • Superman
  • Thor
  • the green lantern
  • Captain America

Other people like more traditional Halloween costumes. These may include:

  • clowns
  • ghosts
  • zombies
  • Fortune teller
  • Pirate
  • witch
  • Doctor / Nurse

When it comes to choosing your Halloween costume, the only limiting factor is your imagination. Think outside the box when deciding what materials you may want to use to create the perfect illusion. Thrift stores offer a lot of variety and ideas, and are generally friendly to your pocketbook. While you’re at the thrift store, be sure to look for the right accessories to help complete your outfit. Don’t be afraid to ask the clerk if they are offering Halloween discounts. You’d be surprised how often I get 15-25% off just for asking.

Aside from your costume and its accompanying accessories, the most important aspect of your costume is your demeanor. You have to become the character you’re trying to portray. Use whatever accent or dialect your character uses. Make sure you have the same attitude that your character displays. A funny clown shouldn’t yell at his wife and kids, a zombie should walk with a limp, a pirate says “yarr” a lot. I think you get the idea.

Whatever great Halloween costume you choose, just remember to be safe and have fun. This isn’t supposed to be a stress-filled vacation. The old saying “Just be yourself” doesn’t apply here. A more appropriate saying would be “Just be someone else.” Have fun and have fun. Let’s make 2011 the best Halloween ever!
