Network Marketing: Top 9 Reasons Most People Fail At Home Businesses

If you’ve been in business long enough or talked to more than a dozen people about network marketing and home-based businesses, I’m sure you’ve heard the old song and dance of, “I tried a of those things”, “My aunt scammed me on the Internet, so I don’t want to try it”, and the old man waits, “Is this a pyramid?”

Yes, it’s true that many people don’t make it in home-based businesses and network marketing, just as many people don’t make it in traditional brick-and-mortar businesses. The failure rate is almost the same, but for much less money in home businesses.

I’m here to show you the top nine mistakes people make and why they fail in their home business, so you don’t have to.

9) They don’t put any effort into it. These are just the “pie in the sky” people looking to make a quick buck. They think that just because they invested some money to start a business, the cash should start pouring in. They don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t know how to do it, and half the time they don’t even know the name of the company.

8) They think they have a better way of doing things. As the typical achiever that they have always been, these people differ from the number nine people in that they do too much for their business. They have to reinvent every brochure, every email, every training, you name it, they do it. No matter what the company is doing is successful, their way is better. They spend all their time fixing what they think is wrong and no time building their business.

7) They vomit on everyone about their business. These people are the people who just don’t take no for an answer. They constantly approach you about your business, how good it is, how amazing it would be for you, how much money you could make, all the time without even knowing you or what you need. I have a woman that I see from time to time that is like that and I cringe every time I see her coming. While I admire her persistence, I wouldn’t sign up with her, even if it was my dream business. I’ve spoken to her three times and even though I know her name and her business, I’d bet my right arm she can’t remember mine.

6) They are just testing it. Sometimes when people are nervous or skeptical about starting a home business, this is what you may hear. Unfortunately, it’s like digging your own grave before you even start. Put it this way: think about something important that you have accomplished in your life. Now think about how you got there. Did you start by saying “I’m going to try to…” or “I’m going to…”? The mind is a powerful thing, give it an excuse to fall back on and that’s what you’ll get.

5) They don’t work on their personal development skills. If you go out and interview 100 highly successful people and ask them how they got to where they are, I can almost guarantee that most, if not all, will say that they’ve put more work into themselves than they did their business. . You will find that they are informed about what they do and how to do it most efficiently. You’ll find that they all have extensive collections of books and CDs about their industry and attend classes regularly. And you will find that their search for knowledge never stops, no matter how successful they are.

4) They are not consistent. I think this is one of the hardest things people have to overcome when starting a new business, especially if they’ve never been self-employed before. It’s like a new found freedom, but being your own boss may not be as easy as you think. You have to really treat it like a business and work to make it the empire you want it to become. Working it in starts and stops will not help you achieve it.

3) They put their business at the bottom of the totem pole. This goes hand in hand with number four. What you tend to see with these people is that they are more concerned with their laundry, calling their neighbor, or shopping than they are with making their business a success.

2) They don’t take the time to learn their marketing system. Your marketing system can make or break you in this business. Learn it, know it, use it. And if your business doesn’t have a marketing system, get one. Bottom line.

1) They don’t think they can do it. You have to know that believing in yourself is at the top of the list for a reason. Belief is the backbone of this industry: in yourself, in your leaders, in your business, in your product, and in the industry as a whole. No matter how deep you think you’re burying it when you talk to people, if you don’t believe it, it will be obvious.

These are all reasons why people do not succeed in home businesses. But when you hear the story, it will most likely be: “my sponsor was terrible”, “the product was terrible”, “it just doesn’t work”, “it’s a scam”. However, keep in mind that in almost every business out there, there are people who not only make it work, but also make a lot of money. And they have the same products, leaders and businesses, they just worked as such.
