How to change an iPhone battery

Besides cracked screens and frozen hard drives, battery life is one of the main elements within your Apple portable product, such as an iPhone, iPod, or iPad. While there are numerous settings on your phone that will increase battery life, once it runs out, it will turn out to be an expensive paperweight. If you’re ready to take on the challenge of changing the battery yourself, follow the steps outlined below.

The item you will need to replace your iPhone battery includes a specially made screwdriver called a Torx screwdriver kit. Also, you will need a replacement battery. Both are available from numerous online retailers. Now let’s start with the repair process.

The first step in removing the battery from an iPhone is to insert the pointed end of a safety pin into the small hole next to the headphone jack. This will eject the tray portion of the back plate. Next, remove the two screws on either side of the end of the base. Now you want to separate the front screen from the rear panel by placing the spudger between the front glass panel and the chrome ring. Always be careful not to tear any tape that still connects both panels to each other. Then remove the wires labeled “1” and then “2” in that particular order with the spudger. The last flat cable can be released by lifting the white tab that holds it in place. This will allow the front and rear housings to separate completely. Next, remove the eight screws that hold the motherboard. Undo the tape labeled “4”, then lift up the motherboard. A tape going to the camera will still hold it. Remove that particular tape from the camera to set the motherboard aside. Pull out the camera to allow the logic board to slide out. Make sure to remove all the screws holding the logic board before doing so. Pull the tab on the battery to remove it. Replace it with a new one, and then put all the pieces back together in the opposite order that you removed them.

Does iPhone battery replacement sound too complicated? This is usually the case for most beginners. Usually many people can take the devices apart and replace the iPhone battery, but they have a hard time putting them back together. Just remember that there are a lot of small parts in your device and you have to be very careful not to lose them.
