History: This breed comes from Germany, around the turn of the century. Smooth-Coated Miniature Schnauzers and Coarse-Coated Schnauzer dogs can appear in the same litters. This led to the decision to stop registering three generations of Coarse-haired Schnauzer coats. This quickly helps to classify and establish breed types. From there, Standard Schnauzers, Affenpinschers, and possibly the Poodle were used in the gene pool. This dog was used as a vermin exterminator, but today it is primarily a companion dog. Some of their talents include tracking, hunting, guarding, performing tricks, and competitive obedience.
