How to remove car signs

Business owners who purchase car signs often worry about how to remove them. Not all vehicles that display signs are strictly commercial vehicles, so it may be beneficial to purchase signs that can be removed and reattached. In other cases, if the vehicle is sold or the employee changes jobs, he will have to remove even the most permanent signage. By following these steps, removing any type of sign you have on your vehicle should be pretty straightforward.

  • car magnets – Magnets are probably the easiest vehicle signs to remove since they do not have adhesive. To remove a car magnet, simply grasp it by the edges and pull it out of the vehicle body. It sounds easy right? It is, but the storage of the magnet is the most important thing. After removing the car magnets, they should be stored on a completely flat surface. If the magnet is not stored flat (for example, in the back seat of the vehicle or on the tailgate of a pickup truck), it may begin to warp or bend. Then when you go to reapply the magnet, it will no longer lie flat on the vehicle and could fly off when the vehicle is in motion. Also, if you have multiple magnets, they should be stacked front to back on top of each other. If they are stacked back to back (where each sign’s magnetic material touches), this can cause the magnetic attraction to weaken.

  • car decals – First of all, any decal that is going to be applied to the body of a vehicle must be printed with a special adhesive that will not damage the paint of the vehicle. Once the decals have had time to cure and have “hardened” on the vehicle, it will be difficult to simply peel them off. Use a heat source, such as a hair dryer or heat gun, to loosen the adhesive on the car decal, then carefully peel it off. Ideally, there will be no residue, but if there is, use an adhesive remover (such as Goo Gone).

  • car window decals – For any window decal, whether it’s a full size car window decal or just a small car decal, you’ll want to use a focused heat source like regular car body decals. The heat will loosen the adhesive and you should be able to gently remove the decal. If necessary, use a razor blade to help loosen the graphic. If adhesive remains on the window, use an adhesive remover or alcohol to clean the window.
