They are prone to PRA and can develop glaucoma. It is important to ensure that your Corgi is properly vaccinated and treated for heartworms annually. Equally important is that you take your Cardigan Welsh Corgi to the vet at least twice a year for check-ups.
Grooming: Due to this medium length coat, weekly brushing with a firm brush is all the Cardigan Welsh Corgi needs. Bathe only when necessary, as this can remove natural oils. I suggest a tear-free shampoo to avoid eye irritations which can make your Corgi very unhappy.
Living Conditions: The Cardigan Welsh Corgi dog will be perfectly happy in an apartment with the right amount of exercise. This will allow them to be a happy dog in every way.
The Corgi can live without a garden. This dog is extremely active, especially when young, and enjoys moderate activities and walks, swimming being particularly good as it is low impact on its small legs. They are good with children who are considerate of the dog. They are fine with other non-canine animals.
Even if we have a small dog, leadership skills are required as the dog may show signs of dominance and this should be discouraged. With good leadership, this dog makes a wonderful companion. With the right amount of exercise, your corgi should not develop small dog syndrome.
