Brandon Lee Training vs. Bruce Lee Training

Brandon Lee’s training program for the movie Rapid Fire was designed by Darryl Chan, his personal trainer. When Darryl asked Brandon Lee what his goal was, in terms of his physique; for the movie Rapid Fire he said that he wanted to look like his father…Bruce Lee.

Brandon Lee’s exercise program began with six days with one day off. He worked two parts of the body per day.

Here’s a breakdown of Brandon Lee’s six-day-a-week training schedule:

Monday: Chest and Triceps

Tuesday: Shoulders and Biceps

Wednesday: Back

Thursday: Chest and Triceps

Friday: Shoulders and Biceps

Saturday: Back

Sunday: Rest

As you can see in this workout, the focus is entirely on the upper body. Later, Darryl Chan reduced the training schedule to 3 days with one day off. The training schedule for that program looks like this.

Brandon Lee Training — Three days on a rest day

Monday: Chest and Triceps

Tuesday: Shoulders and Biceps

Wednesday: Back

Thursday: Rest

Friday: Chest and Triceps

Saturday: Shoulders and Biceps

Sunday: Back

Monday: rest

For chest training, some of the exercises used were flat bench press, incline dumbbell press, decline dumbbell press, and dumbbell flyes.

The Brandon Lee triceps workout used the following exercises… weighted dips, triceps pushdowns, and reverse grip pushdowns.

One of the principles that was used in this training was muscle confusion. The exercises would be changed for each workout. For example, if they did barbell bench presses for chest training in the next chest workout, they could use dumbbell chest presses, etc.

Rehearsals and Scenographies

Both of Brandon Lee’s training programs consisted of approximately 4 sets. The repetitions were designed to increase power, so he performed 5 to 10 repetitions of each exercise.

Brandon Lee’s training program took place over a period of three months. His body weight went from 158 pounds to a lean and muscular 168 pounds. Looking at some of the pictures of Brandon Lee in the movie Rapid Fire, it seems to me that he achieved his goal of looking like his father. Unfortunately, this was the last movie Brandon Lee made.
