Marjorie studied Philosophy and English at the University of Glasgow before embarking on a successful career as a journalist and television producer. She began her career at the Glasgow Herald newspaper, before moving on to STV and BBC Scotland.
During her television career, Marjorie covered news, current affairs, film, and the arts. She became the first woman in the UK to edit a daily news program and won the Scottish RIC Award for Four Seasons, a documentary she produced that featured four films about birth, marriage, retirement and death. .
