Kenya’s tourist attractions are second to none

Kenya’s array of tourist attractions is unmatched due to the country’s unrivaled beauty and charm. With sugar-sand shorelines, grasslands teeming with millions of wildlife, and mountains high enough to touch the clouds, there are plenty of attractions for the visitor to enjoy. Tourist attractions in Kenya are diverse and can take the visitor to the depths of the ocean, face to face with a pride of the world’s largest and most ferocious lions, or dance in a circle with the fascinating Masai warriors.

One of the most spectacular sights that occurs from July to September is the Great Wildebeest Migration. Approximately 1.5 million wildebeest and several hundred thousand zebras cross the Serengeti into the Masai Mara National Reserve. Crossing the meandering Mara River becomes a dangerous hazard with crocodiles waiting to steal a meal or two.

National Parks of Kenya

The best way to see wildlife in the country is to visit one of Kenya’s many national parks. The best known of these is the Masai Mara National Reserve, where the annual wildebeest migration occurs. Expect to see lots of lions, elephants, and cheetahs here, too.

– Lake Nakuru National Park is known for its millions of flamingos, as well as its rhinos, hippos, and giraffes.

– Mount Kenya National Reserve is known for its amazing scenery with Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest mountain in Africa as the main attraction.

– Amboseli National Park has excellent views of Mount Kilimanjaro and is home to a large concentration of elephants, some hippos and profuse bird life.

– Hitherto known for its man-eating lions, Tsavo National Park is now famous for its “red elephants”, hippos and crocodiles.

– Aberdares National Park has impressive waterfalls along with leopards, rhinos and bongo antelopes.

– Nairobi National Park, in the heart of the city, is a habitat for the black rhino and endangered lions, leopards, giraffes and zebras.

– And, the Mombasa National Marine Park offers divers and various glimpses of dolphins, parrot fish and many colorful coral reefs.

Kenyan beaches

If you want to enjoy a few days by the sea, Mombasa is a must. With its pristine beaches to enjoy during the day and bars and clubs to have fun at night, this city is a very popular tourist city for those looking for a relaxing holiday.

Another of the beautiful coastal corners is Lamu. This tropical getaway looks like it’s straight out of the 14th century. Because the roads are so narrow that cars cannot travel on them, the main modes of transport are on foot, dhow or donkey. With no huge resorts, nightclubs, or high-fashion shopping malls, Lamu is the place visitors go to truly get away from civilization.

Lamu’s beaches are relatively deserted and when the sun goes down, everyone goes to bed and rises early at dawn. It is this isolation that attracts visitors seeking solace and peace.

mountains

Those in relatively good physical shape should plan to hike to the top of Mount Kenya or Elgon or Longonot. While Mount Kenya, the highest mountain in Kenya, is not as tall as Mount Kilimanjaro, it is nonetheless more challenging, making a successful climb to its summit much more than an achievement.

Hotels and Inns

There are many hotels and lodges in the cities and national parks of Kenya where visitors can check in and spend a few days relishing these and more amazing tourist attractions in Kenya.
