How to get dewy skin in 5 easy steps

Smooth, dewy skin is sexy. A dewy face says, “I’m young, I’m healthy, and yes, I look good.” Any self-respecting fashionista has her secret tactics for getting a beauty-kissed mist look. But if somehow your recipe for getting your skin to glow without looking greasy has failed you, read on, because in a matter of minutes your skin and your inner Vanity Queen (or King) will thank you.

Step 1: Smooth your skin

Your skin is a canvas. You can paint pretty on bare walls but you can’t “paint pretty” on skin ravaged by a rough texture. So the first step to getting the fun wet look is to remove the dead, dry and unsightly layers of your skin.

A cheap and painless way to do this is with a two dollar bottle of cuticle remover. Yes, that is correct. You don’t always need a $90 facial to peel off the uneven layers of your skin when a makeshift “skin softener” will do the trick.

Cuticle removers dissolve skin proteins while detergents such as sulfates lift and remove dirt. Also, some cuticle pushers contain agents like sodium chloride to leave the skin moist. To smooth your skin with a cuticle pusher, do the following:

    1. Cleanse your face with your favorite facial soap, I just suggest your basic glycerin soap 2. Pat your skin dry 3. Spread a layer of the cuticle remover on your face while avoiding the eye area 4. Let the cuticle remover work on skin for one to two minutes 5. Rinse off cuticle remover

Step 2 – Build Layers of Moisture

The real key to getting that wet and dewy look is having moisture-rich skin. Dry, unhealthy skin will never look dewy and vibrant. With that, our next steps on the road to “Operation Cara Dewy” is to infuse the skin with great hydration.

Step 3: Design and use a face mist

My favorite thing to do in the morning is spritz my face with my own custom face mist. I created this mist for less than three bucks whereas you would have to shell out over $20 to buy a similar face mist in stores. Here’s how to make your own face mist:

    1. Get a 4-8 ounce bottle with a spray nozzle or be an environmentalist and recycle one you have around your house. 2. Go to the drug store and head to the skin care aisle. Take a 4 ounce bottle of “Rose Water” with glycerin. This is a generic natural skincare product and therefore cheap. However, don’t let the price fool you. This steal has just about every element you need to make a high-class facial mist: a rose hydrosol and a moisture-locking ingredient, glycerin. 3. While you’re out shopping, have a bottle of witch hazel. It will cost you between two and four dollars. 4. Now, mix two ounces of the “Rose Water” mixture with two ounces of witch hazel in your bottle with a spray nozzle. You now have a wonderful facial mist. 5. You can customize this facial mist by adding a few drops of essential oils such as ravensara, rose, lavender, geranium, or ylang-ylang. Plus, you can add a rosemary, mint, or citrus spring to your mist for added botanical benefits.

Step 4: Add layers of moisture to your skin

Now that you have smooth, clean skin and a face mist, you’re ready to layer the moisture that will create that lovely dewy look.

Here’s how you create those layers of moisture once you’ve smoothed your skin with cuticle pusher:

    1. Spray your skin with your facial mist. A light layer of visible moisture should remain on your skin. Previous layers of moisturizers will lock in the moisture that this facial spray offers. 2. Now this step may seem silly, but it makes a noticeable difference in the final look of your skin. Clean your hands. Then rub a deep moisturizing hand cream into your hands. This step is important because you are using your hands to apply moisturizer to your face. If your hands are dry and chapped, your fingers will soak up much of the moisturizer meant for your face. 3. Then, if it’s daytime, apply your sunscreen (even if your foundation has sunscreen). If it’s night, apply a light facial cream. 4. Spray your face once more with the facial mist, but use a lighter layer than you used previously. This spray does not need to be visible. 5. Next, mix a pea-sized amount of your liquid foundation with a pea-sized amount of your face moisturizer. 6. Apply the combination of foundation and moisturizer to your face. The dew is done.

Step 5: Repeat

Now repeat step four daily, while making sure to smooth your skin with a cuticle pusher or compatible skin care product. This repetition is critical because every day that you moisturize your skin, you are preparing it for a fresh, healthy, dewy appearance. Enjoy the dew.
