How to clean a spyglass

To maintain peak performance, you must ensure that your viewer is always clean. You can imagine the dirt accumulating on your scope while out in the woods. Dust, fog, rainwater and other impurities that dirty your lenses, the barrel and the scope body. Obviously, dirty lenses make your images look dull and low quality.

This is because it decreases the brightness and sharpness of the image, leaving you with a low definition image that is worth looking at. Also, you’d rather keep your scope than buy a new one after a while. To avoid this shortcoming, here is a guide on how you will always ensure your scope is clean and working effectively;

Gather your needs

You’ll need proprietary fibers like the Ultra Brush to clean the delicate surfaces of the visor. This includes the optics which can be damaged when cleaning with a stiff brush.

You will also need a cloth with non-woven fibers and an extra thickness that can remove grease and dirt from the lens surfaces.

A liquid anti-fog cleaner will also be essential for this purpose.

You should always remember that cleaning materials such as the microfiber cloth offered by the manufacturer are the best for your headset. You can buy the same types of cloths and cleaning fluids once they are gone. This ensures that your tool meets the best requirements to last longer.

Cleaning the outer surface of the viewfinder

Using the extra thick soft microfiber cloth, you can gently clean the outer surface of the visor. Be sure to avoid contact with the lens as this is not the proper material for lens cleaning. Be sure to clean off any dirt, grease, or stains. Make sure the piece of cloth is clean. You can also clean it after use to prepare it for the next use.

lens cleaning

As you clean the lens, start with the largest lenses. This time, use the Ultra Brush to clean off any dust particles. You should clean gently in motion, starting from the center of the lens while working your way to the edges of the lens. The gentle movement will ensure that the glasses do not get scratched. You must handle your tool carefully to ensure it does not slip, scratch, or wrap.

secure storage

After cleaning your scope, you may want to safely store it away awaiting the next use. Make sure the lens covers snap back into place. The scope should also be placed in its case and stored in a cool, dry place. In this way, moisture, dirt or dust will not accumulate on the viewfinder again. As delicate as your scope is, you want to make sure it’s always handled with care, just like you would an egg.
