Dos and Don’ts of Buying Baby Clothes

Little babies are the most amazing and adorable creatures in this world. Babies have 5 times more sensitive skin than an adult, so they also need extra special care of all expectations, be it the clothes or the baby products we are using for them. If you don’t know what to buy for your newborn baby, you shouldn’t feel embarrassed or worried because there are so many parents just like you out there.

Many new parents feel confused when it comes to buying clothes for their baby. From my experience I tell you that buying clothes for these adorable babies is a very exciting task. From the experience of raising 2 children, I would like to share some dos and don’ts when shopping for clothes for your baby.

Behind

1. Give priority to the fabric: –

There are varieties of fabrics available in the market for sensitive baby skin. Always keep in mind that a baby’s skin is much more sensitive than you might imagine, that is why parents should look for a soft, smooth and skin-friendly fabric. You can turn the cloth over and feel the smoothness with your hand. Babies get rashes easily so try to avoid rough and scratchy things as they can damage baby’s soft skin. Then cotton is the best option. Cotton fabric shrinks 10% after the first wash; buy 1 or two sizes earlier than your baby’s actual size.

2. Comfortable clothes give you a happy baby: –

Always buy a comfortable cloth for your baby. Avoid rough stains on clothing. Look for tops without a collar or with a soft collar. The collar and patches make the fabric adorable, but it doesn’t feel comfortable on baby and can lead to neck rashes. You will regret it right after 5 minutes of putting it on your beautiful boy’s body. Make sure the fabric you are buying has enough room to fit over the baby’s head; Putting a tight neck cloth across the newborn’s head can hurt in many ways.

3. Buy clothes according to the weather: –

Always buy clothes that are suitable for your baby according to different weather conditions. For the winter season, consider one-piece outfits that even keep baby’s feet warm. Avoid letting something like sticks around the baby’s waist make him feel comfortable. Do not buy jeans or pants, although they look fashionable because they are not comfortable. For the summer season, look for the cotton top with an open neckline and soft shorts. Buy those cloths that can protect them from the heat.

4. Save money: –

Do not buy exact size baby clothes, always go 1 or 2 sizes ahead of their actual size, the reason behind is that babies grow quickly and some fabrics shrink 10% after the first wash. Some stores sell clothes at cheaper prices when you buy them in sets, it does not mean that you buy all the clothes only for the summer. If your baby is 8 months old, buy baby clothes for 14-18 months as well. You can even sell your old used baby clothes on various websites online.

Not to do

1. Avoid Choking Hazards: –

Always clothes with buttons and extra zippers, your precious baby can accidentally swallow them and from time to time always look for a loose button and broken zipper in the baby’s fabric if there is any, fix it or change the fabric. In the summers buy open-necked shirts for the baby and for the winter season buy one-piece suits without buttons on the sleeves.

2. Don’t buy expensive fashion clothes: –

Never buy expensive clothes for your baby, there are two reasons for this. The first is that babies grow faster, so soon those expensive clothes will be worth nothing. Summer clothes are not good for winters and vice versa. The second, the most important reason is that fashionable clothes are not comfortable for babies, they have additional patches, zippers, buttons and many more that can irritate the baby’s skin, even give it red spots.

3. Don’t buy tight elastics: –

Try to avoid tight stretch pants, jeans, and T-shirt sleeves. Tight elastic fabric can make baby extremely uncomfortable and may even scratch the part of the body where the elastic rubs. Always look for shorts or pants with soft or no elastic elastic. Always consider skin-friendly clothing for young children.

Some tips that parents should keep in mind: –

  • Buy soft colors for newborn babies.
  • Choose a fabric that does not create any problems for the baby’s breathing.
  • Try to find the reason if the baby constantly cries, the clothes could bother him.
  • Do not buy tight clothes, always go for a size slightly larger than the actual size of the baby.
  • Choose clothes that are easy to put on and take off.
  • Gloves and baby socks should be extra soft. Pay special attention to the baby’s neck, hands, feet, and waist.
  • If you’re tempted by fashion, go for it, but stay in baby’s comfort zone.
  • If there is a sale in progress, do not buy clothes in bulk for a season, think smartly
