The first thing to do is analyze the industry the business is in. Is the industry growing? Is the competition too tough for a new company to succeed? You need to look at the industry as a whole to make sure the organization offers a product for which there are enough customers.
Next, what about the company itself? I like to see a business that separates itself from other businesses in some way. Perhaps they offer a unique product, or perhaps they are going to compete by offering lower prices than the rest. It’s always a good idea to find a company that offers something unique and stands out from the rest in some way.
Look at the company’s financial statements for something that really stands out, but don’t automatically worry if they’re still not generating positive revenue. Most new or growing businesses don’t make money in the first few years. Just make sure there are funds available for the venture. Whether they have access to loans, credit, or cash, they need money to be able to invest in their operations and build their business.
As a final note, it’s always nice to be able to get updates about the company. I like to see a website where the company posts company news so I have a way to stay up to date on what’s going on.
