At one point, wrinkles were a sign of wisdom, maturity, hard work, and experience. Today’s culture, however, views wrinkles in a completely different light and is prepared to do whatever it takes to maintain a youthful appearance. They exercise more to stay in good physical shape and eat right to stay healthy and fit.

With all the efforts to maintain a slim, youthful body, it makes sense that getting rid of wrinkles is a standard routine, too. During our teenage years, most of us rarely think about our skin and the aging process that will one day affect its condition and appearance. However, the changes of aging will begin to appear on the skin; changes that will progress as we age up to our 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. .

As we approach our 30s, our body’s production of collagen and elastin (two substances that give skin firmness and elasticity) begins to slow, loosen and fall apart, resulting in sagging skin and with little elasticity. As collagen-producing cells decrease in number, they also become lazy as we age. The skin becomes looser, drier, less flexible and more wrinkled.
At the same time, the fat cells under the skin can start to disappear. With the loss of this supporting fat, collagen and elastin, plus the pull of gravity, the skin begins to sag and form wrinkles.

More often than not, exercise conjures up images of weight loss, muscle tone, and trimmed thighs, and we don’t often think of exercise as having any specific anti-aging effects on the skin, but experts say it definitely does. Regular exercise can play a big role in how young and healthy your skin looks and feels.

It’s no secret that strength training has major total-body benefits. But what many people don’t realize is that our skin is the largest organ in our body, and therefore the benefits can be enormous. By firming and toning the muscles beneath previously loose and sagging skin, a firm, toned, and shapely body will be created. And not only tone the muscles of the whole body but also the facial muscles. Every time you perform a strength exercise, all the muscles in your body and face are tensed to resist the resistance and help tone these muscles as well as the muscle group being exercised. When muscles increase in tone and firmness, the skin attached to those muscles is stretched more and wrinkles are reduced. This can deliver results similar to a facelift, allowing you to influence the rate at which your face ages.

Strength training increases circulation and nutrient delivery to skin cells, removing potentially harmful toxins and bringing more nutrients to the skin. It also increases oxygen to the tissues, which keeps the skin looking young and healthy. Cells in the base layer of the skin, where skin cells are formed, actually become more active and work better with exercise. When these cells work better, your skin looks much younger. People who exercise have fewer wrinkles and look much younger compared to people who don’t.

Combating the aging process isn’t just for those whose birthday cakes have lots of candles. The sooner we begin to prepare for those fast-approaching years, the better we can minimize their impact on us. Although your skin will continue to age as you age, you can take certain precautions to help your skin look healthy, fresh, and youthful from the inside out.

What is known is that exercise is always good for you. It can make you stronger, more flexible, healthier and fitter, improve your stamina, your balance and increase your energy. That way, it will make you “younger”, no matter how old you are or what your skin looks like.
