For those who don’t know, Panic At The Disco is a pop rock / electronic band based in Las Vegas, Nevada. This band is made up of Brendon Urie and his childhood friend, Spencer Smiths along with his schoolmate, Ryan Ross. The band was formed in Summerlin, Las Vegas, by childhood friends Ryan Ross on guitar and Spencer Smith on drums. When they were thirteen years old, the two played versions of blink-182 in bands of different formations. They used the name “Summer League”.
How was the band discovered?
When they brought in Brent Wilson on bass and Brendon Urie on vocals and guitar, the band came up with the name ‘Panic! at the disco. The band has stated that the name “Panic! At the Disco” comes from the song “Panic” by The Smiths, but a more popular theory is that the name originates from the song “Panic” by Name Taken, which has a Panic line at the disco. “
To promote their music, the band contacted Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz via LiveJournal and sent him a link to his PureVolume site. Pete was so impressed that he traveled to Las Vegas to meet the band in person. After watching them practice in his garage, he asked them if they would like to sign his Fueled by Ramen imprint, Decaydance.
Panic At The Disco Achievements
Panic At The Disco released their debut album A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out on September 27, 2005, while building a fan base through PureVolume and MySpace. After consistently being PureVolume’s top 10 most hired artists and reaching number one on the independent MySpace charts, Panic! at the Disco appeared on MTV’s Total Request where they premiered their music video for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” Featuring Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque and a mysterious circus wedding theme. That video appeared at number 10 on TRL’s countdown, which won Video of the Year at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. The single itself, released on April 27, 2006, peaked at number 7 on the charts. The departure of Brent Wilson!
Unfortunately, there were problems in the band. They had to let go of their bassist Brent Wilson. The band officially announced Brent Wilson’s departure with a message on the band’s website on May 17, 2006. Brent has stated that the decision to leave was not his, and that he was fired without notice for monetary reasons, but the rest of the band deny this. Brent is now demanding a cut in royalties and has threatened to take his former gang to court if necessary.
