Used Hyundai cars like the Tucson came online in 2005 to compete in the compact crossover market. Hyundai’s strategy was to compete against Toyota and Honda for the compact crossover segment and get a piece of the pie. So when Hyundai introduced the Tucson in 2005, it was no surprise that the vehicle was well-designed and very reasonably priced.

Hyundai Tucson Used Cars:

When the Tucson hit the market in 2005, you had a choice of a 140-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to boot or a 173-horsepower 2.7-liter V6 to drive. The 2.0-liter Tucson came with a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission and the 2.7-liter Tucson only came with the automatic transmission. The 2006 Hyundai Tucson V6 version still offered all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive and the 2.0-liter version now offered the all-wheel drive option. In 2007, Hyundai dropped the all-wheel drive from the 2.0-liter version. Hyundai in 2010 was going to have a completely different design than the Tucson, so in 2009 they made some changes to the design of the vehicle and this made it look completely different. They did this to prepare for the 2010 introduction of the new restyled model.

The fuel consumption of used Hyundai cars like the 2.0-liter Tucson, which was manufactured in 2005, has 10 miles per gallon city and highway and the V6 model has almost 12 miles per gallon both city and highway. The 2006-2009 2.0-liter version of the Tucson got slightly better for both city and highway driving, but there’s nothing to write about. From 2006 to 2009, the V6 version had no change in fuel consumption.

There are a few things to know before you buy a used 2005-2009 Hyundai Tucson. Many owners have complained about the anti-lock brake system on their 2005 model. The brake system would randomly activate on one wheel without cause. Hyundai apparently recalled the vehicles in 2005 to fix the problem. Other previous owners have complained that the battery is dying or just dying due to problems with the radio. The radio was stealing battery power when the vehicle was off; I haven’t heard if this problem has been fixed yet. There are also issues with the fuel filter where the power button lights up and shows engine misfire.

Over all Hyundai Tucson has been described as a great used vehicle by various leading automotive magazines, blogs and websites.
