Today technology is an integral aspect of modern society. We attach more importance to our phones and computers than ever. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, many people back up their computers to external hard drives or online cloud storage. With this rise in technology, social media sites have also taken over, and social media has overtaken pornography as the most popular activity online. With all this time spent on social media, people create and share a great deal of content on a daily basis. Since Facebook is the most popular social network, many users are seeing the importance of archiving and backing up their Facebook data.

If you are thinking of closing your Facebook account and don’t want to lose all your data, or if you just want to download and backup your Facebook data just in case, here is an easy way to use the Firefox extension, ArchiveFacebook , to back up and archive your Facebook information. ArchiveFacebook allows you to backup Facebook to your local hard drive and explore your archives.

Facebook backup file:

• Photos
• Messages
• Friends / Friend lists
• Latest actions
• Notes
• Events
• Groups
• Information

To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Disable or uninstall Scrapbook:
Scrapbook and Archive Facebook should not be run simultaneously as the Scrapbook Firefox extension can cause instability.

2. Get a custom URL:
If you don’t already have a custom URL for your profile, ArchiveFacebook requires you to set one up before you begin. Unless ArchiveFacebook has been updated, you should be able to access Facebook through

www.facebook.com/YourName.
3. Install the ArchiveFacebook extension:
Go to the Mozilla Firefox Add-on Gallery and install ArchiveFacebook. Once the installation process is complete, you will see an “archiveFB” menu item (between the bookmarks and the tools menu).

4. Backup and archive:
To get started, go to ArchiveFB and select Show in sidebar and open the sidebar. With Facebook open in your browser, click on ArchiveFB and select Archive. You will be redirected to your Facebook page and a dialog box will appear, once you hit OK, the backup process will begin. A dialog box showing the recovery process will show you the progress. ArchiveFB retrieves your stream in reverse chronological order; therefore, you can press cancel at any time, and your file will be extended in time only until that date.

Upon completion of the recovery process, ArchiveFB will begin downloading your data from Facebook, a process that can take up to several hours (depending on your connection and how often you used Facebook).

Once the backup is complete and the file will appear in your sidebar. When you’re done, you can browse through your files. You will notice that the URL is a “file: //”, which shows that you are looking at a local copy on your hard drive.
