Muscle cars, cross country rallies and epic driving adventures. If you think a coast-to-coast journey, fueled by a $ 1 million prize fund and legendary parties, is the domain of the male of the species, The Great American Run is about to prove you wrong.

At an entry fee of 200, Ashley and Aimee Perlinger are the only women participating for the

rally against time that begins along the east coast of America in July. Up and coming hot action from the starting line to the flagged flag, The Great American Run traverses destinations like New Orleans, Indianapolis, San Antonio and Las Vegas.

Gasoline hobbyists and driving enthusiasts, racing fans and first-time rally racers will all spin their wheels in an attempt to hit the 3,000-mile route in the closest time set by the Event organizers. Participants can choose to start from sunny Miami, FL or enjoy the hustle and bustle of New York City, NY.

The Perlingers may be newcomers to motorsport, but the idea of taking on 199 men hasn’t lost them. “The distraction factor is key and I think we have it in the bag!” Ashley says. “Unless the men’s teams wear blinders, the Perlinger girls will distract them … And if they wear blinders, then we are sure to have the upper hand. We are both extremely competitive by design, as experienced or not, watch out!”

With all entrants vying for a limited-edition Saleen Ultimate Bad Boy Mustang, titles of honor, and automatic entry to next year’s million dollar event, the Great American Run is all about excitement and spirit. Like veteran Cannonball Run coming in and The Great American Run

Get organized, says Tim Porter, “It doesn’t matter what you drive, a Lamborghini or Lincoln, Ferrari or Ford, Mini or Maybach; it’s not the metal that counts, but the spirit you carry with you.”

The girls’ team will ride the 3,000-mile route in style. Matt Crandall is preparing his 552 horsepower Bentley GT sports car at GranPrix Imports, Oregon. In addition to the usual assortment of radar and GPS detection systems, the girls are planning a full aural assault with specially selected driving tunes for adventure. “We have spent time for the last year sailing together, but we have not had the opportunity to participate in any test sessions,” says Aimee. “We think that if we’re going to be sitting in a car going through the country, we should do it in style and do it in a Bentley.”

Speaking of style, sibling rivalry has been put aside when it comes to agreeing on the best leg of the six-day tour. “Vegas baby!” confirms Aimee. “The stretch from Las Vegas to Los Angeles is what we love. Vegas, enough has been said, great time guaranteed! Driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, the anticipation, the desert, the final victory … we can’t expect”.

Following in the footsteps of the world-famous Cannonball Run, the Great American Run is the first event of its kind in the United States and will make history when the lights turn green in each departure city on July 29.

For Ashley and Aimee, the challenge will not be to make it to the finish line, but to keep their competitive nature in check within the tight confines of their Bentley sports car. “The right combination of insanity and conservative is the trick,” notes Ashley.

While they haven’t been spending hours on the track, the sisters have become familiar sights at their local gyms and believe their preparation will give them the upper hand. For Aimee, her training sessions will help with her next mission, which is also underway for sponsor Fluge Global Adventures. “Fluge Global is giving me a place on their Everest team,” confirms Aimee. “I am going on a field trip to base camp in October, so exercising has become an essential part of every day for me.”

The winner of The Great American Run 2007 will not necessarily be the car that passes the flag first. The Saleen Ultimate Bad Boy Mustang and event title will go to the driver or team posting an overall time closest to that set of The Cannonball Run crew. In addition to the excitement, competitors will be challenged en route by a series of unexpected checkpoints and detours on their way to Las Vegas, a track day at Willow Springs Raceway and the final group race to Los Angeles.
