Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is based on the Puyo Puyo engine. It is built on various platforms including Genesis, Sega Master System and Virtual Console. The game is classified as VRC for the general public. The game menu is controlled through the control panel.

The name Dr. Robotnik is obsolete. Today, most people refer to Dr. Robotnik as Dr. Eggman. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is similar to a Tetris game. The beans will fall into the bottom pile. You have to rotate them and place them in the correct position to get points. When you rearrange the 4 beans with the same color together, you will be able to remove other beans that are in the pile.

Unlike Tetris, you have to face an opponent who is constantly trying to prevent you from winning the game. In Tetris, you are playing against a timer. In Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, opponents will try to throw garbage.

Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine lets you choose from three modes, including story, versus, and practice. In the story mode, you will have to face Robotnik’s robots to save Mobius. In versus mode, you can play with another player. In practice mode, you won’t have to compete with anyone. Practice mode is suitable for people who want to master how to play the game.

Players have to complete 10 stages. Your goal is to prevent the third column from filling up. As you progress to a higher level, the opponents will become more skilled. Beans will fall into the player’s grid faster, making it harder to rearrange them.

Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is not available as a stand-alone version in Japan. Compile refuses to release the game in Japan because it is similar to Puyo Puyo. Puyo Puyo, also known as Puyo Puyo Tsu, is a tetris-type game that is in development. Sega later released a collector’s pack that includes several games from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, including Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. Sony Mega Collection was made available in the Japan market. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is available as a Wii version. The Wii version was released on December 11, 2006.
