The perception of freezing to death and having to carry a mountain of gear is shattered by the reality of lots of sun, wearing the right clothes, and being able to rent first-class boots and skis at the resorts if you want to travel light. The sense of satisfaction and accomplishment you get from a ski vacation is second to none and provides a positive outlook on life.

For ski enthusiasts, there is nothing more exhilarating than a change of scenery, time away from work, and the sense of freedom from heavy lifting that skiing with nature brings us. Skiing has so many health benefits that it ticks the box for ‘great for you’ in so many ways. One of the things I love about ski vacations is that it is something the whole family can do together or I can do on my own. And for me, nothing beats a winter ski holiday as an escape from the drab, humid, windy and dark days and nights in the UK. Summer ski vacations are just as fun and can prepare me physically and mentally for the winter months ahead.

As someone who likes to try to stay in shape, I love the hours and days spent twirling and turning down the sunny, snowy slopes. I know this works on most major muscle groups to provide a complete workout, helping me build strength and endurance. It can take me all week in the gym to get the same exercise that a day on the slopes gives me. Not only that, but as someone who hates cardio work in the gym, skiing makes my heart go faster and provides a fun cardio session that I simply wouldn’t achieve in the gym. Especially if I combine it with a bit of cross country skiing and I get to walk around a bit.

Skiing improves fitness and endurance. Imagine a month on the slopes – boy would I have had muscles like Arnie! Unfortunately my ski vacation does not last more than a week. But in that week, I can be noticeably fitter, healthier and happier, skiing really ticks all the boxes for health. When it comes to working hard and having fun, skiing is one of the best sports you can do.
